The palace boasts stirring views of the Corfu coast, and the meticulously landscaped gardens are a work of art. Spiros adds, ‘Empress Sissi of Austria was enamoured with Corfu and its mythological heritage, particularly the story of Achilles, and the palace and gardens are filled with sculptures of Greek gods and goddesses.' Corfu's cuisine, bustling town square and old fortress are the highlights of this half-day guided walking tour. You'll start at the Old Fortress of Corfu, a Venetian fortress dating back to the early 15th century, with some eye-catching views over the town. Eleni, one of our expert local guides, says “this fortress gives you a peek into Corfu's rich history. Keep an eye out for its two peaks – Castel a Terra, or Castle near the Land, and Castel a Mare, which means Castle by the Sea in English. They really show off the military defence architecture from the Venetian era.”Next, you'll stroll through the old town's winding alleyways, known as kantounia, towards Greece's largest plaza – Spianada Square. Setting off from Paleokastritsa, we'll cruise north west towards Porto-Timoni double bay, where we'll stop for a while. Next up, we'll head for Diapoulo Island to spend some time swimming and jumping from the rocks. After this we'll make our way to Mathraki Island where there's a pristine sandy beach, and a chance to have lunch at a local fishermans taverna. Then we'll start making our way back, stopping off at the beautiful twin beach.
