The inside story
Looking to add a dash of history to your Majorca beach holiday? The Valldemossa Carthusian Monastery , in the village of Valldemossa, is just the ticket. This 14th century monastery started off as a palace the kings of Majorca could call home. In the 1400s, it was then converted into the place of worship we know it as today. During your visit, you can explore almost all the grounds, which include a church, a library and plenty of well-kept gardens – top tip, head to the outer courtyards for the best views of the surrounding countryside. The charterhouse also has its own museum, where you can learn about Majorca’s past and all the different famous historical faces that were here at one time or another.
