The inside story
Loch Lomond is a freshwater loch which crosses the Scottish Highland Boundary Fault, often considered the border between the lowlands of Central Scotland and the Highlands. The loch is 36 kilometers long and between 1 and 8 kilometers wide, making it Scotland’s largest loch by surface area. The Loch contains over 30 islands and the area is surrounded by many picturesque villages and towns, sleepy forests, and beautiful rolling hills, including Ben Lomond, the most southerly of the Scottish Munro peaks.
The area is a popular leisure destination with both locals and tourists and offers boating and water sports, fishing, camping, hiking, and cycling, amongst other activities. You will also find Loch Lomond Shores, one of the most beautifully situated shopping destinations and home to the Loch Lomond Aquarium. Explore the villages surrounding the loch and stop at one of the many award-winning restaurants, cafes, and hotels situated along the banks. Visit the Loch Lomond whiskey distillery and learn a little more about what goes into producing one of Scotland’s biggest exports.
