Da Vinci no solo fue un artista talentoso sino también un ingeniero revolucionario, inventor de máquinas extraordinariamente avanzadas para la era en la que fueron diseñadas. La exposición presenta más de 200 máquinas interactivas y modelos físicos que nunca antes se habían reconstruido, como el 'León mecánico', el 'Submarino mecánico' y la 'Máquina voladora de Milán'.

La construcción de estos prototipos fue posible gracias a los proyectos originales contenidos en los textos escritos por Leonardo: El 'Manuscrito B', el 'Código de Vuelo' y el 'Códice Atlántico', este último expuesto en una edición completa, disponible digitalmente. Entre las máquinas existentes, están las que Leonardo imagina con perfección, las inventadas para los duques de Florencia y Milán y los instrumentos voladores diseñados muy secretamente, estas notas son una fuente inagotable de ideas.

Esta exposición no es un viaje cultural tradicional, en el que el espectador observa pasivamente las obras del artista, sino una auténtica experiencia interactiva en 3D. Destaca la restauración digital de La Última Cena, la obra maestra de Leonardo, que permite descubrir los detalles y los colores perdidos para siempre de la famosa pintura mural del artista en el antiguo refectorio de Santa Maria delle Grazie.
