The inside story
Nestled in Antwerp’s Het Eilandje neighbourhood is Museum aan de Stroom, or MAS for short. Its collections tell the story of the people, history and future of the city – a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in Antwerp’s rich past and culture.
‘Museum by the Stream’ is a sight to behold with its 6-metre-high sandstone-coloured exterior, composed of ten huge stones stacked on top of each other like Lego blocks. The MAS, which has been part of the Antwerp skyline since it opened in 2011, reveals the city’s long and fascinating relationship with the river Scheldt and its importance as a key global port.
